The Hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna) is the classic British native hedging plant also known as Quickthorn or Mayflower. The densely packed white scented flowers of the Hawthorn appear in early spring and turn to small black berries in the autumn.
Hawthorn is unfussy and will grow in all soil types.
Hawthorn is a valuable addition to a native farm hedgerow. Mixed native farm hedges are excellent for attracting birds and other wildlife as hedges play host to insects, berries and other food sources. Native mixed hedges also offer winter protection for wildlife.
Planted at a rate of five plants per metre Hawthorn will create a dense prickly hedge.
Our stocks of Hawthorn hedge plants are continually changing so please contact us for sizes and plants not listed here.
