Holly (Ilex aquifolium) is evergreen and can tolerate coastal situations due to its glossy thick leaves. The sharp spines on the leaves make Holly hedging plants an excellent choice for added security where an evergreen is desired. Mature Holly plants are drought resistant, and they from excellent windbreaks. Holly hedging plants are good for medium and taller hedges.
If there are other Holly hedging plants in the area they will bear red berries in the winter.
The Holly is slow growing, shade tolerant and will grow happily in most soils requiring little maintenance.
