Privet (Ligustrum) is a fairly fast growing semi-evergreen plant. Grown as a hedge Privet requires clipping twice a year, once in spring and again at the end of summer. The pungent white flowers of the Privet are borne in long panicles in mid-summer.
Privet hedges are useful in an urban setting as it is tolerant of pollution. It can be grown on most soils.
To create a dense Privet hedge it should be planted at a rate of five plants per metre in a double staggered row.
