LAUREL HEDGE PLANTS

 Laurel or sometimes known as Cherry Laurel (Prunus laurocerasus) is an ideal, truly hardy and attractive evergreen screening plant which provides a nice dense hedge. Laurel provides a natural wind break and reduces noise levels.

These Laurels available in the summer months in 20 litre pots are grown by ourselves and not available elsewhere. Because of the 20 litre pot size they are a lot bushier than those available in smaller pots.

Laurel has large glossy green leaves which deflect light in dark corners and untrimmed have beautiful scented white spray shaped flowers which attract bees and butterflies in the Spring. The flowers produce red berries which turn black later in the year a favourite with Blackbirds and other birds. Laurel hedge plants are fast growing , about 30cm per year and like any position in the garden and can reach a height of around five metres.

 Laurel will grow in most conditions, even tolerating dry conditions. Laurel  should be trimmed in late summer as growth begins to slow. Trim tight to avoid spreading width wise.

Laurel is a fast growing dense shrub perfect for garden boundaries. Their dark green leaves contrast well with other shrubs and flowers. Laurel is poisonous to livestock but provides shelter for smaller wildlife.

If required, Laurel hedging plants can be clipped to maintain a medium height, more formal hedge.

• Any soil – well drained
• Bare root laurel should be planted November to end of March.
  
• Root ball plants can be planted from November into May.
  
• Growth rate 30-60cm per year
